Ivan Lins & Band
Ivan Lins (born in 1945 in Rio de Janeiro) is an iconic Brazilian pianist, singer, and composer of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB). Having developed a taste for jazz and bossa nova, he is recognised for his sophisticated style, which is distinguished by a great harmonic and melodic richness.
His career took off in 1970 with the song "Madalena," popularised by Elis Regina, marking the beginning of a prolific and committed body of work. Author of timeless classics such as "Dinorah, Dinorah" and "Começar de Novo" (known by the jazz title "The Island"), Lins is one of the most recorded Brazilian composers on an international scale.
His music has been embraced by the elite of American jazz, including Sarah Vaughan, Quincy Jones, George Benson, and Al Jarreau. This cross-border recognition has earned her several Latin Grammy Awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year in 2005.
Active for over five decades, Ivan Lins remains a respected figure for his talent as a melodist and his elegance at the keyboard, having profoundly influenced fusion jazz and world music.
